Get Energy Performance of Buildings Data service
Free account. Bulk downloads for domestic, commercial and public-building certificates; replaces the old EPC Open Data portal (retired May 2026).
What's involved in using it
- The data is split into hundreds of separate files, one per local council area, for each of the three certificate types — so building a national view means gathering and stacking several hundred files before you start.
- A single building can have several certificates lodged over the years, so to get its current rating you have to pick the most recent one per building rather than counting every row.
- The address and postcode fields come with extra licensing and privacy strings attached — domestic addresses are personal data — so re-publishing or sharing derived lists has legal conditions to respect.
Worth knowing before you start
- England and Wales only — Scotland runs its own EPC register.
- Buildings are re-certified over time, so one building can have several certificates — take the most recent lodgement.
- Only buildings that were sold, let or newly built since 2008 are covered — it is not a complete stock list.
- Domestic addresses are personal data under UK GDPR — using them for analysis is fine, but sharing or re-publishing makes you a data controller.
